Learning Styles "debunked"?

An interesting open letter to the Guardian has reignited the discussion about the use of learning styles in the classroom. My experience of learning styles when delivering CPD or ITT is to emphasize that it should be used a prompt to ensure that your lesson has a range of activities for the students. Many years ago, we conducted a survey to assess learning styles and could not find a correlation between the use of material and retention of facts. It follows that engagement and challenge in the classroom are preferable, whatever the style of activity deployed.
